Stir Fried Mushroom (Sri Lankan Style)


This is one of my favorite dishes, all time. The aroma of this dish will increase your apatite instantly .


  • 230 g of button mushrooms
  • 1 medium size onion
  • 7 dried red chillies
  • 2 pieces of cinnamon
  • ½ tsp of chilli flakes
  • ¼ tsp of red chilli powder
  • ¼ tsp of cumin
  • 2 tbsp of vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste


  • Cut the mushrooms in to small pieces
  • Chop the onion into medium sized pieces. For this dish, onions are important as much as the mushrooms.


Add 1 tbsp of vegetable oil onto a pan and fry the mushrooms under high heat. Stir it until it is halfway cooked and take the mushrooms out of the pan and keep it aside. Now clean the pan and add rest of the oil. Add cumin and fry it for 30 seconds. Then, subsequently, add onions and dried red chillies and continue stir-frying under medium heat level. Remember, handle the red chilies gently to prevent breaking in to pieces . Now,once the onions start to turn to light to medium golden color, add all the spices including tiny bit of salt. At this point, add the pre-cooked mushroom pieces to the pan and continue stir-frying until mushrooms are dryer and, furthermore, water is not oozing out. Serve it hot with white rice.
