Meat balls can be easily prepared as a curry. For Sri Lankan food lovers, I have already shared two more recipes; Spicy meat balls in coconut gravy and stir fried meatballs. You have less time to cook, but you want to make a curry with a good source of protein, this curry is for you without a doubt.

  • 400 – 500g of meat balls of your choice
  • ½ a medium sized onion – finely chopped or sliced
  • 3 – 4 cloves of garlic – chopped
  • 1 ½ tsp of chopped ginger (approx. 1 inch piece)
  • 4- 5 cardamom seeds
  • 3 cloves
  • ¾ tsp of tamarind paste
  •  1 tbsp of roasted curry powder
  • 1 ½ tsp of red chili powder
  • 1 tsp of salt or to your taste
  • ¼ tsp of ground black pepper
  • A small piece of cinnamon
  • A small piece of lemon grass (Sera)
  • A piece of pandan leaves (Rampe)
  • Some curry leaves
  • Water as needed
  •   2- 3 tbsp of cooking oil

Warm the oil under medium-to-high temperature and temper the onions until they turn light brown. Then, add garlic and continue frying for about 30 seconds. Now. lower the heat to low-to-medium level. Bring in ginger, curry leaves, pandan leaves, lemon grass, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and salt. Then, stir fry all for about 30 seconds and lower the heat little bit more. Now, add the curry powder, chili powder and black pepper powder and thoroughly stir fry for about 10 seconds. Remember, it is important that the heat level is at a very low one during this level. Now, add the meet balls to the pot and mix all really well, fast. After, add around 1 ½ cups of water and increase to the heat to high and let the curry boil for about 3-4 minutes. Then, lower the heat to medium level and let it simmer for about 15 minutes while stirring, occasionally.
