Is it me or does every blogger have a difficult time starting a blog post? Sometimes it is actually easier to cook, take pictures and even to write the recipe instead of writing the introduction or general information or whatever you call it. Oaky, I’ll stop rambling.
Seafood dishes are very popular in Sri Lanka. Being an island, Sri Lankan people have a choice of wide variety of fresh seafood. In fact, up until now, in some suburban areas, fish sellers ride around the streets in the morning making a particular noise that people recognize that the fish seller is here. If people like to buy from them, they just have to step out of their homes to buy fresh fish or any sea food that is available on that day.
Today, I am sharing a simple stir fried prawns recipe. The crunchiness of prawns mixed with spicy onions will make your taste buds happier, I promise.
- 500 g of cleaned large prawns
- One large onion sliced
- 1 1/2 medium size tomatoes cubed
- 4 green chilies
- 4-5 cloves of garlic sliced
- 1 1/4 inch cube of ginger root
- 3 small cinnamon sticks
- 5 black pepper seeds
- 4 cardamoms
- 1 1/2 tsp of red chilli flakes ( If you like this dish to be more spicier, you can add as you please)
- Some curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- Cooking oil
- 1 lime
Add some salt and 1/2 lime to the cleaned prawns and mix well. Keep it aside for 3 minutes.
Add some cooking oil to a pan and fry the cleaned prawns until they become reddish.
Then, add ginger and garlic to the side of the pan and let it fry for few seconds. Now add cinnamon sticks, black pepper seeds, cardamoms, green chilies and curry leaves. Let them fry for a while.
Now, add the sliced onions and fry them while mixing everything together. You will see that the whole dish starts to look juicier with the onions. Now, add the red chilli flakes and mix everything thoroughly. You want prawns to absorb the spice well. Now, it is the time for tomatoes. Add it to the pan and mix while frying with other ingredients. Make sure you stir fry everything until tomatoes are well cooked. Now, add salt to taste and mix well. Take the pan out of heat and taste a prawn. Squeeze some lime as needed. Mix well. That’s it. Enjoy!
