Happy Sri Lankan new year to all you beautiful people!
When I first started this blog, I promised that I will be making vegetable dishes with vegetables that are common here but uncommon in Sri Lanka. There is a reason for that. For some Sri Lankans who live abroad, it is difficult to find Sri Lankan vegetables around the corner and at the same time, they can be worried that the vegetables they can find cannot be incorporate with their usual Sri Lankan meal. Broccoli is one such vegetable.
Today, I am sharing a very simple broccoli dish (මැල්ලුම) that can be served as a side dish to steamed rice.
- Pinch of mustard seeds
- ½ medium sized onion
- 2 broccoli heads finely chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic finely chopped
- 2 green chillies finely chopped
- Cooking oil
- Salt to taste
- Lime to taste
Add some cooking oil to a pan on a medium heat. Then, add the mustard seeds and wait until they pop. Add the onions and stir well until they become tender. Now, add garlic and finely chopped green chillies. Stir well. Finally. Add the broccoli and pinch of salt. Stir well. Cook for few minutes. Turn off the heat and squeeze some lime juice in to the pan. Mix well.
